I Got the chance to fish with the brothers Mike and Chris. Mike’s turn to be captain. And his choice of fishing spots, unless we do not catch then it would be MY choice of fishin spots. Learned two things today and reminded of another. I was reminded how much fun it is to fish with these guys and learned my wife is a comedian, and good luck signs come in strange packages. 2:30am wake up for a 3:30 pickup for a 5 am launch at BSM. While I am stumbling around trying to clear the fog so I don’t forget anything, wife decides to hide my cup of coffee. After trips all over the house inside and out looking for the cup of coffee, I discover her snickering in the den with my coffee. We had a good laugh an I went back to getting organized. She hollers out from back den “truck w/ boat trailer coming around the corner” grab last items and head out to meet the crew, no truck tailor, boat or crew there. We discussed her new found hobby of running me in circles early in the morning, and she swears she is not messing with me,” There they go again“, this time I saw them myself, headed out and started loading my stuff, while relating the entertainment I provided for my wife earlier, Then they fessed up about how they thought they saw me standing out so they passed the house to mess with me, we enjoyed a good laugh and off we went, I checked to see if there was a KICK ME sign on my back. The new good luck sign is probably better kept to myself, but never been very good at that, so here goes, Chris fishing at the back of the boat says “OH NO, drops his pole and commences to hang off the back of the boat to complete his morning constitutional, I’m hollering for Mike to turn the boat into the wind and he is hollering “he better not &^% in my boat” after the total chaos ended and Chris was feeling better we moved down the shore a ways and started catching reds.
Got launched and poured the live bait in the live well and off we went to Byu St. Milo. Got to the first area of broken marsh and lagoons way early and could only hear the poppin corks at work. Finally daylight revealed the corks being takin down by every fish in the area cept the reds and trout we were targeting. Light to no wind gave the skeeters the advantage till the wind picked up . Not much luck till Chris had his moment and then the reds started. Not every cast, but, steady enough to make the trip exciting. Got to the end and made a box count, which Mike considers bad luck, but given the alternative(getting checked with more than the limit) he gave the OK. Needed more reds to finish the limit so we went back almost to the forbidden area and caught 3 and lost one to reach our goal. Made a relocation hopin for some trout but wasn’t gunna happen today. Good incoming tide to start changed to fallin as we fished, water in the areas we fished was murky, and didn’t feel hot to the touch(no depth finder to read the water temp), Mike is electronically challenged and don’t see why he needs a GPS when he can see land, and uses his pole for a depth finder, can’t argue with success, we caught fish, never got stuck and never got lost.
Clouds and wind kept the temp comfortable. All fish caught on plastic tipped with dead shrimp( all live shrimp became fresh dead shrimp shortly after daylight.) The favorite color was chartreuse. Managed to avoid a really bad storm till we were on the road. Finished the day at 10:30 or so with 15 reds (17-24“),3 drum 17” ,Plenty small reds and drum released,1 sting ray,1 pin fish, and 3 croakers,
