My son, and I fished one of my tournaments ( The Bass Assassins ) today on the Tchefuncte River. I sometimes call it " Dafunky River ", and it lived up to its name today. We started in Marina Del Ray by a little ditch that ran out from the marsh. This place always holds fish. We work back to the cut. I miss a few on a white Chug Bug. Then catch a short. Then one cast I get a big blow up on the bug. He almost pulled the rod out of my had. I set, and nothing. A few cast later Gman's ( My son ) had his bug walking next to where I had the strike. I turn my head then hear a huge blow up. I look back to see a massive boil where his Chug Bug was. I see his rod bent over. He stuck his rod down in the water to keep him from jumping. I ran back to help. When it came close we could see that it was a 11 1/2 inch fish behind the ten pounder size show he put on. Gman puts the fish in the well. We go a while with nothing. I idle over my off shore spots to check them out. Nothing. It looked dead. We then run back up the river some. We stop by a old bulk head, with cypress trees in front of it. I pick up the Nasty Baits Nasty swimmer. Took a few cast, then caught a short fish. A few more cast then BAM! This fish hit like it was the last minnow alive. I fight him long enough to know he was a good fish. He ended up jumping off. Oh well. We move on. We come to another place we wanted to hit. There Gman catches another to add to his bag. Then I caught another small bass. Then that was it.
But even with missing that fish , and not having a keeper all day, it was a awesom day. My son won the little tanglers division.
