The Florida Parishes Bass Anglers showed up in force Sunday May 15th at the Green Bridge for the 5th tournament of our 2016 season. A northeast wind had the 44 members and 4 guest digging in boats and trucks for rain suits, hoodies or any layer possible to put on in the predawn hours. The wind coupled with a falling tide had dropped the water level overnight as we continue to bounce from high to low water every other tournament.
As the 26 boat numbers were called the field split with boats heading north and south to see what their spots were going to produce. Everyone soon found that the Pearl Complex had become the new Crawfish Capital of the Miss-Lou area as every bass caught was full bellied and many with tentacles or pinchers sticking out of their throats. Some members even caught crawfish as they latched onto soft plastics and were reeled in. The abundance of food and full bellies made for finicky, light biting fish the anglers soon discovered. At the weigh in line many members had the same story of lost fish and the light bites that made getting solid keepers and big fish in the boat a real challenge. The father and son team of Tommy and Chad Babin solved the puzzle and smashed the field with a 13.19 lb bag to take home the top honors and a pretty hefty payday. Hats off to the Tommy and Chad for bringing in that sack on an extremely tough bite, great job guys. The Veteran Pearl River duo of Jimmy Dorris and Will Moore secured the second place spot with a 9.07 lb sack showing once again why they are two of the top sticks in this area. In third place was another Pearl veteran, Skip Rayborn, bringing 8.87 pounds to the FPBA scale which moved him to 1st spot for the Mister Twister Quarterly Bonus Award. Fourth place was “Team Consistency” Steve Ruschmeier and Casey Cramer as they once again had a good day with 8.14 lbs despite boat issues. Fifth place was another father and son team as Cal and Dow Williams claimed the Tight Lines Bait & Tackle sponsored spot with 8.10 lbs. New sponsor for the FPBA, Louisiana Fish Fry Products enabled a 6th payout spot for what wound up to be two boats. Scott Andrews fishing solo and the team of Josh Crowder and Jarren Crotwell both brought in sacks weighing 8.00 lbs to claim the last sponsored spot. Another seven boats received Door prizes courtesy of Stalker Fishing Lures and Louisiana Fish Fry Products. Congrats to all of our winners on figuring out a bite on a tough day. Those bass were so full of crawfish I don’t see why they bit anything at all.
