The FPBC held it's inaugural tournament earlier this month on the
Tchefuncte River out of 4th Street Landing, also known as Menetre Park. Members reported a consistent bite from north of the launch all the way to the marsh. The good news is that the shad are showing up in larger schools all along the river, which is something that was all but absent last summer. Let's hope this trend continues as shad are vital to bass and other gamefish. The competition among the 15 members was tough, as only 3 ounces separated the top 3, and the top 7 were separated by only a pound. Rumor has it that the winning bag came from mid river and was caught on a RP3 Custom Lures jig in the old reliable black and blue color. A reminder to all about fish care during these hot months, please remember to use ice or a Release Me type chemical to keep those fish healthy, you'll notice below that we had a member lose second place due to a dead fish. Most modern bass boats have improved live wells, but some boats may not, it's a good idea to check your pumps often. Results as follow:
1st Place Wayne Richardson and Patrick Engerran - 7.56lbs
2nd Place Darren Welch - 7.26lbs
3rd Place Lance Jarrell - 6.95lbs (Lance had 7.45lbs but had a .5lb
deduction for a dead fish)
Big Bass honors go to Darren Welch with an even 3 pounder.
Congratulations to all the winners.
