The FPBA continues on it's path of steady growth. Including the 6 new members that joined this past tournament Sunday, we're up to 52 members. We'd like to take this time to welcome the new members and thank all existing members for supporting the club. Our goal is to continue growing, while adding more sponors going forward. Our members a huge part of our success, thanks again to all who have joined.
We fished our final May tournament on Sunday, May 31st on the East Pearl River. Originally, the launch site was scheduled for Crawford's Landing on the West Pearl, but recent rains created a muddy mess with extreme current on the West. After a quick poll, it was decided that launching at the green bridge off Hwy 90 in Pearlington was the better choice.
Prior to safelight, talk around the sign in table focused on where clean water may be found, along with spots that may have relief from the strong currents across the area. As safelight approached, 33 anglers began getting ready for blast off. As boats were called, they began to scatter, with the majority heading north. After reaching
their starting spots, most found stained to muddy conditions with the predicted strong current, especially on any waterways connected to a stem of the river. A couple of boats reported an early topwater bite, but it didn't last long. Others flipped, pitched, and cast a variety of lures in an attempt to hook up with a willing fish. There was an unreal shad spawn going on in areas that had little current and submergent grass and/or lily pads, (pretty much anything coming up from the bottom, providing structure on which to attach eggs). Unfortunately, there were not a whole lot of bass taking advantage of
this, so off to plan B. Then C, then D, then E, well, you get the picture, suffice to say, it was tough sledding. The less than ideal conditions were apparent at the 3pm weigh in, only 4 limits were brought to the scales, results below:
