The FPBA entered into the second half of their season Sunday 07/10/16. With 19 boats it was the lowest turnout for the club this year. As sign up started with the arrival of the club all the talk was centered on three topics, the crazy heat we are having, the low river and the low weights being turned in during recent Pearl tournaments. Nobody was expecting a slug fest with numbers of fish being brought to the scales. The dock talk was “gonna be a grind”, “just hope to catch a limit”, “gotta make every bite count”. As usual the club members proved to be good poker players and skilled at keeping knowledge close until the weigh in started.
When the boats started coming into the ramp the weigh in area was thrown together quick as the high water temps had taken a toll on the fish and fishermen alike. Sorry for the lack of pictures we normally have but a skeleton crew of officers to weigh in and haste to get the fish back into the water as soon as we could made pictures difficult. As the fish hit the bump sink it became obvious the bite wasn’t quite as bad as predicted as solid limits starting hitting the scales.
The father and son duo of Tommy and Chad Babin earned their 2nd FPBA win of the year to follow up their May win on the East Pearl. The duo brought in a hefty 5 fish limit of 11.29 lbs to claim the 1st place prize by a 2 pound margin. The win also moved the Babin’s up to the #2 spot on the Legend Cartography AOY race as they are making a hard charge at the points battle. Congrats to them on the win. In 2nd place was another father and son team, Skip and Reid Rayborn, bringing in a solid 5 fish limit which included some last hour heroics as both father and son boated two and a half pounders to cull up to 9.26 lbs. The 3rd place team of Barry Galloway and Ron Garic continued with the solid bags when their 5 fish limit weighed in at 9.17 lbs but a dead fish penalty bumped they net weight back to 8.92 lbs. The pair also brought in the Mister Twister sponsored big bass of the day with a 3.38 lb Pearl River special. 4th place was Thomas McCrystal. Fishing solo Thomas had a limit going 8.60lbs to claim the Tight Lines Bait and Tackle sponsored position. Our third father and son duo of Danny and Nick Giovingo landed in the Louisiana Fish Fry Products sponsored 5th position with another solid 5 fish limit going 8.40lbs to round out the money spots. Congrats to all the winners!!!!

The 2016 Legend Cartography race is getting as hot as the temps with shuffling every tournament. Jean Junius and John Gillespie use a 6th place finish to move up to the top spot with 602 pts. Tommy and Chad Babin’s win propelled them up two spots to take over the second place position with 568 pts. Forrest Green and Al Duncan had another strong day to remain in the 3rd spot with 564 points. Jason and Trenton Pittman slipped to the 4th spot with 540 pts. Moving into the top 5 again is Patrick Engerran and Bailey Madere with 518 pts. With a “2 drop system” the Legend Cartography AOY award won’t be decided until the last tournament of the year on the Tchefuncte River in December. The race is still wide open and as many as 5 teams could be fishing that last one with a chance at the title.
Our next tournament will be held in Manchac launching from the Northpass ramp off of I-55 on August the 13th. New member apps will have to be turned submitted by August 6th at midnight.
