The 2016 Bass Assassins Classic is in the books. It was a frigid morning at Lock 1 launch as rigs started lining up to launch. Frost covered boats lined the shore as anglers made last minute preparations to their tackle. Some already had their game plans figured out so they enjoyed the morning talking with others. It was a peaceful morning till the sun started to shine in the sky. Anglers donned their life jackets, and cranked up their motors. There was an eerie fog that blanked the field as the once quiet area was now full of the sound of idling outboards itching to blast off. I called everyone out one by one till most were gone. Some decided to fish right there by the launch first. The day was full of watching anglers running from spot to spot. It was clear the front that came through Saturday had a major affect on the fish. Anglers were scraping their original game plans and trying new areas. I had no fear about not having a good weigh-in however due to the quality of anglers that were on the water. When the scales opened it was clear I was right.
Ronald Pierre dominated the field by weighing in a 11 lbs. 14 oz. limit which was over a pound more than second. He also brought in the big fish of the event which was a 4 lbs. 15 oz. beauty. Several changes had to be made to Ronald game plan to put this bag together. He ended up swimming a 1/4 oz. RP3 game changer jig and a game changer thumper series spinnerbait cypress trees and under docks. It took several cast to one target to get a fish to bite. In second Jimmy Dorris searched for clean warmer water all day while flipping to bring in four fish. Two of which were over 4 lbs. to weigh in 10 lbs. 9 oz. Danny Giovingo Sr. squeezed into the top three with a 6 lbs. 13 oz. limit. Danny used a spinnerbaits, worm, and jerkbait to catch his fish. Four of the keepers came from the main canal and the other was in a cut off the main canal.
