The FPBA held it's September tournament on Sunday, September 12th at Bayou Liberty. Launch site and weigh in was held at the Bayou Liberty Marina. After a long hot summer, signs are finally pointing toward a gradual transition to fall. Football season has kicked off, baseball's
pennant race is about to heat up, dove and teal seasons are in full swing, and daylight hours are getting a little shorter with each passing day. But perhaps the most telling sign was the cool front that greeted 22 anglers as they prepared for a day of competitive bass fishing. Cooler temps and lower humidity made for a very pleasant day on the water, although fishing was a bit of a grind for most competitors. The heavy rains that preceeded the front created stained water conditions in some areas, while water movement created by North winds behind the front had positive effects. Smaller bass seemed eager to bite, but bigger bass were few and far between.
When 3pm rolled around, only 5 limits were brought to the scales, further testament to the difficulty most anglers had in catching keeper sized fish. But with this group, you can bet that somebody is going to figure out a productive pattern, and given the enormous amount of grass growing in the area, it's a safe bet that the grass pattern played a role for some.
