The FPBA held it's first tournament of August on Saturday, August 8th, launching at the Manchac public ramp. Weather promised to be a major factor as 35 anglers launched their boats and readied themselves for safelight blast off. While rain was not in the forecast, extreme heat put anglers to a test of endurance. Air temps were in the high 80's well before daylight, and forecasts called for a high around 100 degrees. Another weather factor was a brisk west wind. On a positive note, the wind helps to keep any bugs at bay, but the downside is very low water levels created by these winds. For the first time in recent memory, water levels were low enough to allow bigger bass boats to slip under both the Hwy 51 bridge and the CN railroad trestle. This made North Pass easily accessible and many boats took advantage of the situation.
Given the lenient off limit boundaries, the Manchac area fishes huge, with only an eastern boundary of the Causeway. Productive areas range from rivers on the Northern and Western sides of Lake Maurepas, stump lined canals South to below Ruddock, and more rivers and marsh areas along the Northern and Western side of Lake Pontchartrain. As numbers were called, boats headed in all directions, a clear sign that all areas were in play. Once boats began returning for the 3pmweigh in, reports varied from those who caught numbers of short fish to those who struggled to put any fish in the boat. When the scales closed, only 8 limits were weighed, the top 4 teams separated by a mere 6 ounces, results below.

The Mister Twister big bass award goes to Trenton Pittman with a pretty 4.11 lb bass. Congratulations to all the winners. A special congratulations to Trenton for his first solo win, we now know who the real fisherman is on Team Pittman. We'd also like to acknowledge Grandpa Floyd Pittman, an accomplished fisherman in his own right, for driving Trenton to the launch site and returning to pick him up after weigh in. It won't be long until Trenton gets his driver's license, then his Dad Jason will have more competition on the Northshore bass circuit. See attached video for techniques and lures
