Cool temperatures and a low river stage met the ten teams that competed in the Liars and Lunkers bass tournament at Crawford's Landing on December 14th. The West Pearl River was registering a shallow 5.2 feet on the gauge with no sign of a rise in sight. The lower water level does help to reveal bass hideouts that are normally hidden to the naked eye, such as lay down logs, stumps and cypress knees. The problem is, the lower water also makes it harder to get a boat in and out of some productive areas. The team of Tommy Cooper and Clay Zeringue were not bothered at all by the challenging conditions. They had a 12.00 pound limit for first place, anchored by a 3.20 pounder that took second place big bass honors. Two brothers made up the second place team. Jeremy Smith and Josh Smith had 10.86 pounds total, which included the days biggest bass weighing 3.56 pounds.
The Liars and Lunkers will have their last winter bass tournament on January 11th at Lock One. Anglers will be allowed to launch on either side of Lock One. For more information, please contact Chad at (985)502-3217.
