I planned a fishing trip with the wife all week for Saturday 7/13. Watched the wind forecast all week and they were calling for 5-10 then Friday they upped it to 10-15 so I was nervous about calling off the trip or just duck off into the marsh and go after some reds. When I woke at 3 and checked the buoy the winds were light so I said let's do it, we might have a beat down on the way back in. that's what I was trying to avoid cause my wife rarely goes with me cause she hates waking up so early and getting family members to wake up so early to come watch the kids is a challenge in its self too, but if I beat her to death and get her soaking wet she'll never go back out with me. So we launched at the East Pearl and headed out to Lake Borgne, the lake was like glass. We got to our spot at 5:30 and started throwing Skitter Walk top water plugs and had trout blowing up right from the start. My wife even caught 1 on top and she doesn't even know how to work it. We caught about 10 on top the bite died pretty quick. We then went to Matrix Shads on a 1/4 oz jig head. We were on a steady bite, which was awesome cause my wife was reeling them in one after an other. We picked through throwbacks and white trout to finish a limit. I told her I wanted to go look for a Triple Tail and described to her what they looked like and that they lay sideways by crab traps and trash. We took off for a boat ride on the ever so calm Borgne. On the first crab trap I came to there was a Triple Tail! I put a Matrix Shad on a plain hook on a 2' leader under a popping cork, then casted right past him, reeled it right past his face and watched him slam the bait. After a good 5-10 min fight I had a 15# Triple tail to end a wonderful fishing trip. Couldn't have asked for a better day, weather, time spent with my wife and watching her have a good time!
Ended with 50 Specks 15 white trout threw back a bunch And 1 Triple Tail -COONASS 7-13-13 |
