Last week at the October meeting a few members were talking about going fishing when I told john that I would like to make a trip out of Bayou Lacombe to try and make a video. We laid some rough plans about going Tuesday since I had Monday and Tuesday off but never committed to it. I gave John a call on Monday to see if it was still ago and he said "Hell Yeah!" so that answered my question. He told me that Mr. Green caught a few that morning and he had a good feeling about tomorrow. As you know the last time I went out to Bayou Lacombe with John we filmed a great trip out to the Pylon so I figured John had some kind of black cloud kryptonite that could somehow burn off the black clouds that follow me when I bring a camera on the boat. We started out early. met at Bayou Adventure around 6:00 and launched at the end of lake rd for around 6:30. The first thing I noticed was the amount of bait on the water when we got out to the mouth of the bayou. We started throwing plastics on the bottom and it didn't take but 5 minutes before I had the first speck of the day. nothing big. maybe 13 inches or so. We worked the mouth for about 10 minutes and ended up with 2 or 3 keepers. As we made our way out of the mouth we started working the west shoreline and I hear John say "got one" and proceeds to reel in what everyone though was a red by the way it was pulling. When it broke the surface somehow the importance of getting this fish in the boat skyrocketed. Amazing how that happens. Well we discover that we didn't have a net in the boat so John heaved it over the side of the boat and we had our first 3 lb trout of the day in the boat. From that fish on we caught ALL solid fish along that shoreline. It got to the point where when we caught speck that was let's say 16 inches. you would here "it's a small one" The bite slowed down a little around 8:30/9:00 and We headed to Todd's bayou towards goose point. That bayou had some real attractive features. Mr. Green pointed out some flats that would jet out to the middle of the bayou then these hard slanting ledges that looked like they could really hold some fish. I picked up one flounder off one ledge but that was all we could manage. We ventured back into a duck pond around 10:00 and picked up 5 or 6 more trout and then worked our way back up to the launch where we picked up 5 or 6 more really nice size trout. We finished the day with 25 big beautiful speckled trout, a flounder, and a redfish. I caught my fish on all matrix shad. Magneto, tiger bait, and Creole color. Mr. green was using a grayish colored fluke minnow. I believe John was using matrix also if I'm not mistaking. The water was rising hard all morning and it had a beautiful clear/green. the north east winds we had help protect that shoreline and really made for some easy tighlining. The water temp was 80 degrees. This was one of those days to remember and I am so happy we put it on film. Thanks to John and Mr. Green for an amazing morning on Bayou Lacombe! -Keith 10/12/13
