Went to the reef yesterday not expecting to do much, but had to see anyway. The water was way dirty and the wind was out the S/E with pretty good waves for my boat. I Noticed the research buoy was gone and hope someone didn't cut the line cause they're still out by the causeway. We Jigged fish for a half hour and said that's enough of this ,let's go to plan B and look for some bass inside. We hit the Rice Field dam and put one of Ronald Pierre's Lagniappe Jigs on and started throwing it around some cover. I Got my first hit and it was hold on or lose the pole! My first thought it was a gar fish but it went in circles and stayed deep. It finally came up and I'm staring at a blue cat with a head bigger than mine! Went deep again and start yelling at my son to get the net but he assures me he can hand grab it. Now here's a young man who can't grab his own a$$...been watching to many noodleing shows. The fish comes up, he grabs and it's almost man overboard! My son gets up and says, "I think I need the net!" Finally the fish is in the boat and slimeing everything on board. The weight on the scale was 25lbs. I'm elated and get back to fishing. My son ties on a jig and catches a nice redfish. Then we troll back to where I caught my cat and cast out to the same spot and I'm hooked up again but not as big. A nice 9lb catfish hits the deck! Damn these jigs are living up to the Lagniappe name cause I'm catching everthing but bass. We went else where in the Rice Fields and caught 9 bass on soft plastics. Water was still pretty stained and fishing was slow but still had a blast anyway! -Lemo51 3/8/13
