Bayou Bonfouca Bass
PictureKeith Lusher
Daniel Sissac and his friend, Dat Tran, made a trip to Bayou Bonfouca in search of a few bass. They started fishing at 10 a.m. and were releasing all the bass they were catching until Daniel’s father Roger texted him, “We weren’t planning to keep any fish but my dad texted me at 1 p.m. and said he needs fish so we started filling the ice chest with each bass that we considered big enough to keep,” Daniel says. The friends fished until 5 p.m. and finished the day with 12 keeper bass. “We used Renegade worms in Tequila Sunrise, and Electric Blue worms made by Luck-E-Strike,” Sissac says.

Bayou Lacombe Goggle-eye
Mike O’Brien lives on a canal just off of Bayou Lacombe and says instead of catching bass, he’s catching a lot of goggle-eye. “I can’t get the bass to hit because the goggle-eye are all over the place and they’re nailing my bait before the bass get there!” he says.
Mike says the fish were along the banks and near the wood but he didn’t catch anything in the grass or lily pads. O’Bien says a trick worm did the trick! “I had a few top water hits floating the Trout Trick plastic shad but most were caught on the trick worm. All the fish were a nice size and very feisty,” he says.
Coquille Park
Peter Bertucci of Covington says he has a go-to lure when it comes to fishing the local ponds in the area. “I’ve been using a Rapala Mini Classic since I was a kid and love using it with my ultra-light pole,” he says. He was in Coquille Recreation Park in Covington and decided to fish the ponds near the playground area. He fished in the afternoon and caught a mix of bass, perch, and sac-a-lait on the small crank-bait and says “There is a bigger pond in the rear of the park that I am going try and fish this weekend.”

Tournament Results
Bass Assassins held its tournament at Bayou Liberty. Twenty-one anglers showed up at Bayou Liberty Marina to compete. They were greeted with great weather but extremely low water.  At the launch most anglers talked about missing a lot of fish which is a common problem during the spawn. Some of the fish that were brought to the scale were full of eggs which is a sign that the spawn is underway. Ron Garic cruised to victory with his limit weighing 10 lbs. 11 oz. easily beating out Rudy Goutreaux who ended up second with a 9 lbs. 5-fish limit.  In third was Bayou Liberty veteran Jimmy Dorris who brought in a 5-fish bag weighing 7 lbs. 12 oz. Rudy Goutreaux won the big fish division with a 4 lb. 7 oz. largemouth bass.

I created NFR.com in the spring of 2012. Since then it has helped link Northshore fishermen to valuable information  and has filled the void of absent information on the web about fishing on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Northshore Fishing Report has morphed into a brand name and can be found not only on the web, but on radio and newspaper. As NFR grows I will continue to work hard at keeping NFR local focusing on local anglers, reports, seminars, and fishing tournaments in St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish.  I hope you enjoy the website and If you have any questions please email me at: Keith@NorthshoreFishingReport.com
