Take Your Pick!
PictureKeith Lusher
The favorable conditions that anglers have been seeing this fall on the Northshore continue to improve as we wind our way through November. The stable temperatures that we’ve seen so far, paired with southeast winds that have managed to figure their way into the November fishing equation has made what was a good situation even better for anglers on the Northshore.
Captain Andy Jones of Wicked Fishing Charters in Mandeville says he hasn’t seen the fishing this good in quite some time. “The fishing that we’ve seen along the Northshore is absolutely epic. We’ve got that good saltwater in the lake and people are catching fish left and right,” Jones says. With the fantastic fishing in the area, Andy says there really isn’t a wrong choice to be made when heading out on the water. “Lat’s just say it’s a target rich environment right now. From the Causeway all the way to Lake Borgne - Take your pick!”

Lake Pontchartrain
On his latest trip to Lake Pontchartrain, Captain Andy observed shrimp boats operating on both sides of the Causeway Bridge. “It’s a great sight to see those shrimp boats in the Lake. We have’t seen those guys out here in years,” Andy says.
When fishing Lake Pontchartrain, Jones recommends targeting bridges, bayous, and points. “The Trestles and the bayous are holding trout right now. Also points like Goose Point and Green Points are holding plenty of fish,” he says.
Even the Causeway, which has been disappointing the last few year, has turned up productive for Jones this month.  Andy was using dead shrimp on the bottom and ended the day with 16 sheepshead caught along the concrete pylons.
With the cold fronts starting to drop temperatures, Andy recommends trolling the bridges for trout when the water temperatures dip below 70 degrees.

As a whole, all of southeast Louisiana has benefited from the abnormally high water as a result of the southeast winds that we’ve seen in November. Andy says while the water is high anglers need to take advantage because it could be any day when a harsh cold front swings through. “The water is super high right now and the fishing has been great because you can get into all of those back water ponds but I keep waiting for the day the switch is flipped and all that water starts pouring out,” he says. When that happens anglers will have to adjust their gameplan and start to focus on a more normal winter pattern.

FPBA held its tournament at the Tchefuncte River. It was a tough day on the water for everyone.  Lashun Robertson was able to grab the win with only a 4-fish stringer weighing 10.04 lbs. In second place was the team of Paul Paille and Jody Holden who weighed in 5 fish at 9.18 lbs. Darren Welch and Troy Conklin brought 5 fish to the scale but one of them was dead resulting in a .25 reduction. The penalization brought their weight to 9.16 lbs. resulting in a third place finish.

I created NFR.com in the spring of 2012. Since then it has helped link Northshore fishermen to valuable information  and has filled the void of absent information on the web about fishing on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Northshore Fishing Report has morphed into a brand name and can be found not only on the web, but on radio and newspaper. As NFR grows I will continue to work hard at keeping NFR local focusing on local anglers, reports, seminars, and fishing tournaments in St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish.  I hope you enjoy the website and If you have any questions please email me at: Keith@NorthshoreFishingReport.com
