Lake Pontchartrain can be an anglers dream one day and be his worst nightmare on others. Personally I have had days in that Lake that I wanted to pinch myself because I though I was dreaming only to go out the next day and not catch a single fish. Feast or Famine can best sum it up but others have weighed in on Lake P. and have submitted some very interesting comments. I now present to you the official Twenty Truths of Fishing Lake Pontchartrain.

20.  What ever the wind forecast is, you will be safe adding 15 miles per hour to it.

19.  If you're heading out in a flat boat, your gonna get wet!

18. You'll curse the lake today and praise it tomorrow.

17. Beer and waves don't mix!

16.  If you aren't catching fish you will never know if it's because they aren't biting or they aren't there.

15.  If you're heading out in a bass boat, you're gonna get wet!

14.  You'd be better off rolling dice than looking at a tide prediction.

13.  If you're heading out in a bay boat, you're gonna get wet!

12.  There is no secret spot!

11.  The Lake will humble you quick!

10.  If you take a charter trip in the lake with a well known guide you will learn more in one trip than you would taking 10 trips by yourself.

9.  No matter where you plan to fish prior to getting out there... that will change once you are out there.

8.  What worked yesterday may not work today.

7.  Trollers don't get enough respect.

6.  Hard heads and gaff-tops win every time. Just move.

5.  There is no silver lining to getting spooled by a Jack.

4.  There is such a thing as too much tidal movement.

3.  Everyone who uses live shrimp is an ass, unless its you using them.

2.  The bottom is flat with no structure until you pull a trawl.

1.  If you see Dr. Bob Wiess out there, turn around and go somewhere else. He has already cleaned house!
