On Feb. 16th thirty anglers packed into the Main Street Launch in Lacombe to fish the 2025 season opener for the Bass Assassins.  The night before was full of rain and we were greeted with post frontal conditions with high winds.  Most of the anglers stayed in Lacombe with only 3 making the run to the Liberty/Bonfouca area.  At the weigh-in it was clear that the folks who stayed in Lacombe made the better choice.  In first place is Karry Terrebonne who stayed close to the launch to bring in an impressive 9.17 lbs. limit which was anchored with the 3.99 lbs. big fish of the day.  In second we find Skip Rayborne with a 7.96 lbs. limit.

The Bass Assassins gathered at Crawfords Landing to fight for the title of 2025 Bass Assassins Classic Champion.  For this classic the anglers who qualified through the grueling 2025 season this was not going to be an easy task.  For the best of the Bass Assassins it's only fitting to have tough conditions so that the winner earns the large trophy and the right to say he is the 2025 Bass Assassins Classic Champion.  Two weeks prior to this the area seen upwards of 10 inches of snow in some areas.  Water temps were in the mid 40's the weekend before.  Then to top it all off mid way through the week before the river took an unexpected turn up.  The river was predicted to be at 8 feet for the event however by Wednesday the river started to shoot up reaching 13 feet on the day of the Classic.  A cold muddy river on the rise is no ones favorite conditions.  As I called numbers out during blast off most anglers headed south looking to run from the upset river to find better water.  At the end of the weigh in it was Paul Paille who made a run around and way up the East Pearl to find cleaner water and a 9.82 lbs. limit to claim the win.  Paul also brought in a nice 3.13 lbs. kicker to claim the big fish honors

Hot on Pauls heels was a river legend Steve Hadley with a 9.51 lbs. limit to take home second place.  Rounding up the top three we had Eric Ciko with a 9.03 lbs. limit.
