The Double Nickel Bass Club (west) fished the Tchefuncte River on Tuesday. The club squeezed one more tournament in before work on the new 4th St. Launch begins in January. The River was dirty towards the Abita River and cleaner the further south anglers went. In the end, it was Joe Picone who took first place with a 3-fish tournament limit weighing 7.63 pounds. Picone also cuaght the big fish of the day: a 3.97-pound bass.
The 2024 Bass Assassins season is over as the final tournament was held at Crawford's Landing. A small crowd of 9 anglers showed up at the launch to do battle on the river. The Angler of the Year spot was already wrapped up, with Eric Ciko walking away with the title. Everyone else was battling to either get a win to make it to the Classic, or get a few extra points to make sure they made it to the Classic through points. The river was rising the morning of the tournament cresting at 7.5 feet at the Pearl River gauge. As I called out the boats, a surprising number of them headed north. As the day pressed on, it was clear it was a tough day, and the weights were going to be low. Of the nine anglers that showed up, no one brought in a limit. Jimmy Dorris brought in four fish that totaled 4.93 pounds. Dorris also brought in the big fish: a largemouth bass weighing 1.85 pounds. In second was Pearl River legend Steve Hadley who brought in four fish weighing 4.01 pounds. 3rd: Chris Basey 4 fish 3.71 lbs. 4th: Eric Ciko 3 fish 3.43 lbs. 5th: Bill Dorris 3 fish 3.11 lbs. 6th: Justin Birch 1 fish 1.00 lbs. 7th: Danny Giovingo 1 fish .84 lbs. 8th: Roger Mitchell 1 fish .68 lbs. This was the last tournament for the 2024 Bass Assassins season. Once I am finished with all the points I will inform all the anglers who qualified for the classic. The first regular season tournament will be held on Bayou Lacombe Feb. 16th, 2025. If you have any questions you can email bassassassinsla@gmail.com or call Chris Basey at 985-707-7857.
The Double Nickel Bass Club (east) held its tournament on Tuesday. There were 18 boats that qualified to fish the event. The entire morning was miserable as rain and wind hampered the anglers. On a brighter note, the water was clean. In the end, it was Jerry Bullock who won the classic with 6.88 pounds. Bullock also won the big fish pot with a largemouth bass weighing 3.99 pounds. Bob Perry came in second place with 6.63 pounds. In third place was Dwain Crumby who weighed in three for a total of 6.25 pounds. This will end our season until after the first of next year. Dwain Crumby
