After watching this crappy weather and getting some decent reports about the reef I was liked a caged animal waiting to get loose. After running a few errands this morning I decided I was going to get out there no matter what! I left the house and went to the reef for a early afternoon trip. I remembered last year I had some good trips in the afternoon so said to myself, why not? The trip out there was nice with little or no wind. The water was still cloudy at 73 degrees. I pulled up to the reef and there was 3 other boats out there. The first thing I noticed when I got there was a lot of fish marking on my fishfinder. The second thing I notice is one boat catching one here and there. I decided to troll around and try to pinpoint where they were. The boat to the left of us starts catching and after 3 in a row the rest of us circle the wagons and the slaughter begins! Everyone starts catching just some of us better than others. Me and my son were using Matrix Shad in the Shrimp Creole and the new Ultra Violet color, tail dipped in chartreuse dye.
I got to meet one of the members on here "Speckgetter" and he was doing pretty good in his boat. The other boats seemed to be watching us catch fish rather than watching how we caught fish. We started at 1:30 pm and put our 50th fish in the live well at 3:00 pm! I hardly could believe we had to leave them biting but I'm sure the other boats were relieved we were done. On the way in I asked my son, what the hell just happened!?! It was way to fast and to much fun! Will be out in the morning. I guess the wife might have to start the crawfish boil without me!
