For a classic in any fishing club you want it to be a true test.  A classic crowd generally comprises the best of the best for a given year.  This years Bass Assassins Classic at Bayou Lacombe was possibly the warmest classic we have ever had.  With warm weather in February, most anglers are thinking slug fest.  Big females moved up on the beds and sight fishing all day.  Well not so much this year.  In the weeks leading up to the classic, we had a lot of unstable weather.  A lot of rain one day and bright blue skies the next and this was a weekly occurrence.  This led to extreme fluctuations in water levels and temp not to mention muddy.  Just the day before the classic the water was super low.  Then it rained most of the night causing the water to be over the dock by blast-off time.  This year was definitely a true test.  Someone always figures them out though.  It was a close race up at the top of the leaderboard.  Devin Artigue narrowly squeezed into first place with 4 totaling 8.57 lbs.  Right on Devin's tail was Joe Stokes with an 8.49 lbs. limit.  Jimmy Dorris took third place with a four-fish bag that went 5.82 lbs.  The big fish of the day went to Devin for his 5.13 lbs. kicker.
