The Double Nickel Bass Club fished on a challenging morning that wasn't the best day for fishing, but you know how fishermen are. There were 22 boats that showed up to compete for bragging rights and a cash pot. The river had a little rise with an incoming tide, and the wind was blowing too hard to maintain proper boat control. In the end, it was Bob Perry who came in first place with 5.82 pounds. Barry Lee claimed second place with 5.58 pounds and first place big bass with a 2.96-pound fish. Joe Firerson took third place with 5.00 pounds. Butch Thurmond claimed second place big bass honors with a 2.90-pound fish.
The Double Nickel Bass Club will hold its next tournament at the East Pearl River on May 27. The club is for those who are above the age of 55. For more information, please call Dwain Crumby at 985-502-6006.
